The 4th of July is considered to be the Hallmark Event of the Summer. Growing up in Northern Virginia, I can remember the different events that marked this summer event. When we lived in Oakton we would go to the parade in the City of Vienna and catch candy from the Fire Trucks and watch the Shriners drive around in their little cars. When we lived in Chantilly, there used to be a carnival type event across the street at Poplar Tree Park that would end with a firework show at night which we could sit in our front yard and watch. Now with my family we try to do a variety of events such as visiting the Plains or simply just getting together with family and friends at the house.
It does seem that we have evolved from having community events to going to large party venues which can be good if you can stomach the traffic! What are some of your favorite things to do for the 4th of July or favorite places to go around our area?
